Ashley contacted me just a few months ago on an inquiry for a wedding date. I was shocked, the date was open and I was excited to work with her and fiancee Derek. At the beginning of the session Derek walks up "I don't like having my pictures taken" he says. I hadn't even fired off one shot yet. A small wave of panic rushed over me. How was this going to go? Please want to be here for her please, please... were the thoughts running through my mind at that second. Ashley is definately into getting the great picture, being in the moment and having fun. Now.... all I needed was Derek to take on a small ounce of her mindset.
We walked and shot, we talked a bit. They have a son together (7 months). The have been together for 5 years, engaged for over 2, so as Ashley said, it's been a long time coming.
As we shot and tried some poses, some silly and others more serious. He started to loosen up a bit. We laughed a lot, skimmed through some of the images (I think it helps people loosen up when they see a peek of how the pictures are looking). By the end of the session Derek informed me he "had fun." Fun?! Whoo hoo! Point goes to the photographer for sure.
This month I will meet with Derek, Ashley and their friends and family on the day the met 5 years ago to tell the story of not only their wedding but their love for one another.
I love this shot,
Awesome moment,
Fave!
